The past few years I have posted a "best of" for the previous year. I realize that this is a few days late, but nevertheless, here it is: my favorite photos from 2011. I first thought this would be a good chance to showcase some of my best photos but as I looked through them I started picking out ones that are more meaningful to me than ones that are technically outstanding. The above represents some of my favorite people in 2011 and some of the most fun times I had all year. And it is a great reminder of the power of a photograph. It's more than something pretty to look at. It's a memory of a special time in life—being young and in love, being old and in love, the moment you committed to spend your life with another person or the moment your hard work and talent was recognized on a magazine cover. The moments don't always last long but the photos help us savor the feeling. Looking back over the year, I feel like the luckiest guy in the world spending my time with these amazing people and sharing some of the best of times.
I am a California photographer who transplanted myself to Washington, DC for a change in scenery. Not that the scenery in California is all that bad—but I'm hungry for new experiences, ideas, and inspiration. To see a complete portfolio go to http://www.nicholasdonner.com.
