Jason and Anchal had their wedding in New Zealand a few weeks earlier and then had a reception for friends and family in the States at Top of the Town in Arlington. The view was amazing! And despite the dark and some winter wind up on the 14th floor, we were able to do some quick portraits outside, which I love!
Every time, I get finished with personal projects like this and say, "I should be doing more of this." It's always fun, I always learn something, it expands my creativity, and it reminds me that photography is more than just a job.
After an engagement session with Bridgette and Greg at Lockhouse 6, Erin came by to do some musical portraits. It was perfect—we played some music, made some photos, and relaxed—no timelines to follow or clients to wow. She took the photos of me, and I the ones of her. And I think we got some pretty interesting stuff after processing it to look like a grainy film.
I created this set of photos with a non-profit organization called Bare the Burden. They exist to help veterans communicate with one another about their experiences in combat, in the hope that through talking about it, healing takes place. With actual veterans for models we created scenes which depict the loneliness that some people feel after serving overseas and when they come back to a place where people don't understand what they are going through. The photos were used in print and online.
It's been an annual tradition to post some of my favorite images to cap off a year of work. These are some of the images from 2012 that make me really appreciate having a photography business and, without a doubt, the best clients in the world. Last year was amazing and 2013 is looking even better! Bookmark this page because there's some great stuff coming up!!!
I am a California photographer who transplanted myself to Washington, DC for a change in scenery. Not that the scenery in California is all that bad—but I'm hungry for new experiences, ideas, and inspiration. To see a complete portfolio go to http://www.nicholasdonner.com.
